25 Dec 2002The photo and following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The special supplement was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial. "Mike was a kid with a lot of heart," Bingham's brother said. He weighed only 145 pounds and had two teeth knocked out the first day of football practice, but went on to become a starting player on Cardinal Dougherty High School's varsity team. After graduating in 1963, Bingham was a shipping clerk at Sears, Roebuck and Co. He was drafted into the Army in October 1965 and got married 15 days before joining Company A of the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry in Viet Nam. Bingham loved children and wanted to work with retarded youngsters after he got out of the service. He gave Vietnamese children dolls and toy trucks sent by his wife. The private first class, a rifleman, died near Cu Chi, 20 miles northwest of Saigon in Hua Nghia Province, on June 28, 1966, nine days after his 21st birthday. He was survived by his wife, parents and a brother who was a Korean War veteran. From a native Philadelphian and Marine, Jim McIlhenney christianamacks@comcast.net |

The laughter we shared together ever so briefly lives eternally in my heart, my brother. Wolfhounds Forever From a brother-in-arms, Mike Moschkin mrmoschkin@hotmail.com |

The 3rd squad was wiped out on 'Ambush Purple' on June 28th, 1966. SGT Price and I came over from Hawaii together as well as some other members of his squad, Harry Dyer, Carl Fell, Sgt Sheidt (RTO and FO from our mortar platoon), including some early replacements from February 1966. There were 12 men killed that night. Once again as the anniversary date is near, the feeling of guilt is overwhelming. Thank youMegmer Moschkin 2/A/1/27 1965-66 On 28 June 1966 Company A, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, lost twelve men in a firefight east of Bao Trai. They were:
