SP4 Gary Wisnier was one of the original members of 2nd Platoon, Company C, 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 506th Infantry (Currahee), 101st Airborne Division from May 1967 to March 168 before he transferred to Company A, 2nd Bn (Abn), 327th Infantry (the "Bastogne Bulldogs"), 101st Abn. Div. during the infusion program. Soon to be published is a book titled "My Gift To You" that tells about Gary Wisnier and some 150 other members of his former battalion who died in Vietnam. Gary is also mentioned in another book - "The Stand Alone Battalion, A Pictorial Chronology of the 3-506th Vietnam Odyssey (1967-1971)". This book is available on the 3-506th website. Gary will always be a Currahee!

A Note from The Virtual WallAccording to 3/506th teammate Jerry Berry, SP4 Wisnier was transferred from Charlie 3/506 to Alpha 2/327 on 19 March 1967. Six weeks later, on 29 April 1967, Alpha 2/327 lost two men: SP4 Wisnier and PFC George Lathan of Yonkers, New York.SP4 Wisnier is buried in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Pine Ridge Road, Cheektowaga, New York. The 3/506 Association advises that "We first sent flowers to St. Stanislaus Cemetery in 2004 when we located Gary's place of burial. Flowers went out again this year and will continue year after year. Gary is one of 9 KIA's in the state of New York who receive flowers from the 3/506 Currahees. |
