Dear Dad,

I miss you. I miss that you didn't take me to the father-daughter banquet when I was a Blue Bird, but Grandpa took me so I still got to go. I miss that you didn't walk me down the aisle at my wedding, but Mom did, so I was given away by someone who loved me. There were many things I missed doing with you, because you gave your life to protect others. I'm so proud of you, and your family was taken care of. You don't have to worry.

I cried for you and prayed you would come home. Even though you didn't, I know God is taking care of you just as he has taken care of us. I know you would be happy and proud of the life I have. You may not have been there to see me as I grew up, but the life that I have, that all Americans have, is because of you and others like you. Thank you Dad. I love you.

Forever Your Daughter,
Terri

God Bless You

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Two men went missing when F-4D serial 66-8822 from the 389th Tactical Fighter Squadron was shot down in the vicinity of the Ban Karai Pass 15 miles southwest of Dong Hoi, North Vietnam:
  • Major William J. Thompson, Houston, TX
  • 1stLt Joseph S. Ross, Fort Thomas, KY
Both men were carried as MIA, and promoted while in that status, until Presumptive Findings of Death were approved by the Secretary of the Air Force - Ross on 12 March 1975 and Thompson on 05 March 1979.

The Air Force casualty list says that Captain Ross was assigned to the 362nd TFS, but the 362nd did not deploy to Southeast Asia. Similarly, the POW Network puts Colonel Thompson in the 399th TFS, another squadron that did not serve in SEA.
