A Note from The Virtual Wall Between 20 and 24 April 1968 seventeen men from the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry were killed in a bloody fight to secure two peaks located about 27 kilometers southwest of Hue. Once captured, a fire support base - FSB VEGHEL - was built on the hilltops. 1/327's dead were 17 A Company: SGT Charles W. Reberg, Casper, WY SP4 Charlie M. Jernigan, New York, NY B Company: SSG David S. Urias, Phoenix, AZ SP4 Larry E. Goswick, Adairsville, GA SP4 Norman L. Hinkle, Austin, MN PFC Rome E. Dimmerling, Louisville, OH PFC Jerry R. Grubbs, Mendenhall, MS PFC Jesus Martinez, Mission, TX PFC Jackie D. Walker, Okemah, OK C Company: MSG Don F. Dian, Hannibal, MO SSG Gerald Cohen, Levittown, NY SGT Stanley A. Bullis, Savanna, IL SGT Peter E. Conlin, Upper Nyack, NY SP4 Henry Pasillas, Riverside, CA PFC Henry T. Curtis, Culpeper, VA E Company: SP4 Royce E. Eddleman, Simpsonville, SC HQ Company: SP4 Gary Loduha, Milwaukee, WI (Silver Star) In addition to the 17 infantrymen, 9 aircrew were killed in two helicopters shot down while supporting the assault - a total of 26 American dead.
