Precious Brother

I have always known that you died a hero, but I have found one of your closest comrades and he verified it. Your partner on the "Gun" said that you were the embodiment of the American spirit. To you, he was your little brother and you were always looking out for him. The combat had made you all so tired and you had sent him to take a break from the Howitzer. You made a mistake while he was gone and he has blamed himself for 37 years that you died instead of him. "No greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for his friends."

We all still love you, miss you and we still cry because there will always be a vacant place in our lives and in our hearts.

Precious Brother

I have talked with another one of your buddies. In my previous entry, I stated that you made a mistake. You didn't. One of your buddies who was also injured told me that your unit was involved in an intense fire fight. You were having to fire so rapidly that there was powder left in the "gun" and when more powder was loaded, it ignited. You didn't have time to get the breech shut. He assured me it was instant. You didn't have to go on that last mission, but you volunteered. I wish you hadn't.

I am still looking for Al.

We still miss you and love you.
