10 Aug 2004 Pfc Dan Bullock was a true American hero despite his age at the time of his death. Pfc Bullock saved the lives of members of his battalion by retrieving ammunition not once but twice. His couragous act should have been rewarded with a personal decoration but instead the Marines sent him home in a body bag. Forgotten by many but always remembered by a few... A Note from The Virtual Wall A night attack on the An Hoa Combat base on 07 June 1969 cost Fox 2/5 Marines five men: LCpl Larry J. Eglinsdoerfer, Milan, MI Pfc Dan Bullock, New York, NY Pfc Donald W. Bunn, Fort Wayne, IN Pfc Jason D. Hunnicutt, Petaluma, CA Pfc Steven H. Montgomery, Hayward, CA Originally from Goldsboro, North Carolina, Bullock moved to New York with his family at age 11. He altered the date on his birth certificate and enlisted in the Marine Corps on 18 Sep 1968 at age 14, arriving in Vietnam on 08 May 1969. A month later he was dead. When his body was returned there was neither a memorial ceremony nor a headstone for his burial. Years later, a Marine Corps friend learned of the situation and undertook to change it. The result was a memorial stone above his grave site in the Elmwood Cemetery, Goldsboro, North Carolina.
