4 Jul 2004 In remembrance of a man of Valor, Honor and Courage, who had great respect for the men he served with, for his family and especially his wife and child. Johnny, you believed in this country and its greatness, in God who formed it and placed his leaders in their positions to safe guard her. I will never forget you, first as a young American full of life and energy and then as the idealist that honor, truth and the purity of youth will win out over evil forces. The strength, courage and focus of duty were your cloak only to speak well of your family and hold them in high regard as to their honor and your cherished love for them. As you spoke of them each - mom, dad, your wife, your child - all with words of great adoration, with love in your heart. This 4th of July can be celebrated only as a result of the men such as you who were willing to give all. As many of you did, may we honor you and always remember you and why you gave so much. 20 Nov 2005 As an "old man" serving with a "bunch of kids," Johnny was a good friend and soldier to all of us in the platoon. I remember joking with him about life and death on the morning of his birthday. That afternoon he gave his life courageously. Johnny always had a smile or a humorous comment, delivered with a thick Georgia accent, to help lighten the burden. On those rare occasions when we were back at the base camp, Johnny would play his guitar and we would sing together for entertainment and friendship. I can still see his face, I miss him, and I'm thankful for having had the privilege of knowing and serving with him. A Note from The Virtual Wall SP4 Wheeler was killed by rifle fire as he attempted to reach and retrieve his wounded platoon commander.
