Cadet Jessica J. Murray |
I have received a POW/MIA name with Captain Paul D. Raymond's name on it. It is an honor for me to wear this and I think about what I am doing every day. I would like to live my life as couragiously as Captain Raymond. Wearing his name around my wrist is a huge inspiration and motivates me to never give up. To me he's a hero and a larger than life figure that I will always think about.

A Note from The Virtual WallOn 05 Sep 1967 1Lt Paul D. Raymond and Capt. Donald W. Downing of the 557th Tactical Fighter Squadron were shot down in F-4C tail number 63-7547about 10 miles north of the city of Vinh Linh while on a mission over Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam. Since there was neither confirmation that they survived the crash nor evidence that they had died, the two men were carried as Missing in Action. None of the POWs who returned in 1973 had any knowledge of the two men. On 15 November 1973 the Secretary of the Air Force approved a Presumptive Finding of Death for Captain Raymond and his status was changed to Killed in Action/Body not recovered. As of 24 March 2002, neither he nor Captain Downing have returned.
