The database page for George C Kosovich, Jr
George Kosovich was sent along with 3,300 other young men to Vietnam on the USS Blatchford in October, 1965 as part of the 1st Inf Div. We set foot in Vietnam on the shores of Vung Tau and from there were sent to a staging area in Bien Hoa for three days until we could be sent to a remote area called Phuoc Vinh. It was in Phuoc Vinh, one night while providing security for our artillery unit, that the VC aimed a directional mine directly at George's position. He didn't survive his wounds. George Kosovich became our first casualty in Vietnam and I have never forgotten him. |
