Lyle,

I never got to meet you. Your father became my step father-in-law. I still wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your sacrifice. I'm so sorry you did not make it back. I know you left a wife and child behind. You were killed before I went over. My prayer is that you are resting in eternal peace.

Lyle was a medic and all of us who served in Vietnam had the greatest respect for the medics and Corpsmen. They were awesome. I know he served with honor and pride. Lyle's father was very proud of him. We are all proud of him.

Lyle,

You are my oldest brother and I hardly remember you. I do remember you coming to our house shortly before you went to Vietnam but I was only 5 years old. Our father had the deepest respect for you before he died. So do I.

I want to thank you for giving the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

We live in the best country in the world and for that, we are all indebted to all veterans, who fought bravely for our rights, privileges and freedoms that we enjoy today.

I went to visit your grave recently. I left you a flower and two American flags to honor you as you should be.

I would have loved to have known you as an adult and somebody I do hope we meet in heaven.

Love from your half-sister,
Tennie J. (Holloway) Phinney

Thank you for your sacrifice.
Love, Aunt Sue (Mitchell) Walker

Hi, I'm your 2nd cousin. I never got to meet you but I have heard so much about you. I wish I could have met you. I was born a day after you and in 1989. My older brother has the same birthday as you. I plan to go into the Navy when I get out of high school. Please watch over me and my cousin who is going into the Army this year. Take care of him and all our soldiers. I love you so much. Thank you for everything.

Love,
Catherine Scott

From his aunt,

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Although assigned to HHC, 1/26 Infantry, PFC Holloway probably was in the field with Alpha Company 1/26. The Battalion lost two men on 29 May 1966:
  • PFC Terrence J. Daley, Cleveland, OH
  • PFC Lyle D. Holloway, Summersville, MO
