Sergeant Hobbs was a truly unique individual. A skilled soldier who cared deeply about his soldiers and his unit. He was scheduled to go on leave and get married after the mission on which he died. I asked our company commander to allow him to stay back but was denied. I was Sergeant Hobbs' platoon leader when he was killed. Our platoon was pinned down by enemy snipers. Suddenly, we had a wounded soldier out in front of our lines. Sergeant Hobbs came to me and said he could get the wounded soldier and I said OK, but keep low. Shortly thereafter, he was brought back to me wounded and I ordered his immediate evacuation. For all these years, I've so deeply wished I had said no to him. May God bless him and protect him for all eternity.

Cecil Hobbs Jr. was my uncle. I never had a chance to meet him due to the fact that I wasn't born till the 80s. But this brings me great joy to see him honored.
