A Note from The Virtual WallOn 15 Jan 1969, HHC, 212th Aviation Battalion, was tasked to provide airlift for the Commanding Officer, 3rd Marine Regiment, and the Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, during Operation Taylor Common. As the Huey was lifting off from an LZ it was hit by enemy fire and crashed. Although Corpsmen from 1/3 Marines were on-scene immediately, all eight men aboard the aircraft died:
