PFC Scott D. Corrello, of Jerusalem Township, called Oregon, Ohio his home. Drafted in August, 1967, while employed by the Norfolk & Western Railway, PFC Corrello, entered the U.S. Army on August 29, 1967 in Cleveland, Ohio. Following basic training, PFC Corrello was sent to Vietnam commencing his tour on April 16, 1968.

Assigned to an engineering unit, PFC Corrello's unit was working at a new bridge site spanning the Saigon River. Named the Phu Cuong Bridge, it was located approximately 35 miles north of Saigon. Exact details of how PFC Scott Corrello lost his life will never be known as there were no eye witnesses. Information obtained in his Individual Deceased Personal File reported he was last seen as the night operator of a barge at the bridge construction site. His body was recovered and a coroner's finding theorized PFC Corrello had slipped and fallen into the river, suffering a deep scalp wound caused by a sharp object. The blow rendered PFC Corrello unconscious and then he drowned.

Private Corrello graduated from Clay Senior High School, Oregon, Ohio, in 1965 where he had played football. At the time of his death, PFC Scott Corrello's brother Army Private Charles Corrello, was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Charles Corrello escorted his brother's body home for burial services.

Note: An article and photograph in the Tropic Lightning News, November 25, 1968, reported a new pontoon bridge across the 700-foot Saigon River had to be constructed due to an act of Viet Cong sabotage that crumbled a portion of the Phu Cuong Bridge on Highway 8A.
