THE MEMORIAL

REASON, SEASON, LIFETIME

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or
a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you
will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON ... it is
usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have
come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you
with guidance and support, to aid you physically,
emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a
godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason
you need them to be.

Then, without any wrong-doing on your part, or at an
inconvenient time, this person will say or do something
to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die.
Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our
desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you
sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON it is
because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! But ... only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things
you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional
foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the
person, and put what you have learned to use in all
other relationships and areas of your life. It is said
that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life.

Charles J Britt was a true hero in every sense of the word. To have had him in my life, if even for a short time, was enough to carry him in my heart for a lifetime. You are always in my thoughts and one day, dear friend, we will meet again. I love and miss you dearly.

18 Jul 2004

Just wanted to say "Britt, you are dearly missed and thought of often". I came across your flag from your coffin the other day. It brought back so many memories of you, dear friend. The flag is now tattered from being flown at all times during 911. I was so honored to have your flag to fly, just wish you were still here, but I know you're always around. I hope you are taking care of Mom now. Tell her I miss and love her very much. I know if she's with you, then she is very happy and I know OK. Keep a place open for me when my day comes. I will be glad to meet up with you and Mom again. You both will always be in my heart and my daily thoughts. Walk proud in the heavens, cause you truly deserve that honor of being a real hero. I love you both and miss you so much. Tell Mom I know when she's around me, and thank her for watching over me and the girls. I love you both and miss you so very much.

Love Always
from a very dear and close friend - he was family to us,

THE MAN

Sergeant First Class Charley Britt is remembered by his comrades of the LRRP, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division (1966-1968). His dedicated memorial page starts with the words
Charley Britt was the one soldier all the other soldiers whispered about ... with total respect bordering on awe. It is for this reason that we are devoting this separate page so several people may write their remembrances.
and includes his LRRP leader's words
We had a unit of tough and seasoned soldiers. Charley was simply the finest soldier most of us had ever met. He was organized, fearless, skilled and had nerves of steel .. or no nerves at all. He was a man among men ... (Mike Lapolla, mike@lapolla.com )
Charley Britt's memorial is on the
75th Infantry site

However, SFC Britt wasn't with the LRRP program any longer; he returned to Vietnam on 04 April 1971 as an Advisor with MAC-V. There is a note on his mortuary record indicating he was on temporary duty with D Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry, at the time of his death. If so, he was killed in action in Quang Tri or Thua Thien Province - that's where D/7/17 was operating.
